Văn Hải Village Temple is located in Hamlet 1, Văn Hải Commune, Kim Sơn District, Ninh Bình Province. According to historical records, Văn Hải Hamlet was established in the 9th year of Emperor Tự Đức's reign (1856), and Văn Hải Temple was built afterward. The hậu cung (rear sanctuary) of the temple was renovated in 1909.

At Văn Hải Temple, the following figures are worshiped:

- Trần Hưng Đạo (also known as Đức Thánh Trần), who is honored in the temple's inner sanctuary.

- Lê Niệm (also called Đức Thánh Lê), who is worshiped in the innermost part of the sanctuary.

- Vũ Khắc Dụng (1817-1879), originally from Phượng Trì Village. Together with Vũ Phạm Khải, he led the efforts to recruit settlers, beginning with their own clan members, to reclaim and establish Văn Hải Hamlet.

- Phạm Quang Trù (1818-1881), also from Phượng Trì Village, was the maternal uncle of Vũ Phạm Khải and the son-in-law of Nguyễn Công Trứ, the imperial land reclamation commissioner. He worked alongside Vũ Khắc Dụng in recruiting settlers for Văn Hải Hamlet.

The temple is designed with five compartments facing west, including the Bái Đường (worship hall), Tiền Đường (front hall), and Nội Cung (inner sanctuary). Inside the temple, a large inscription reads “Văn phu, vu Hải”, which roughly translates to “Cultivating and enriching the land of Văn Hải”. In the inner sanctuary, there is a long đình (ornate shrine pavilion) housing an altar with a nameplate dedicated to Đức Thánh Lê. On either side of the long đình, two small shrines honor deified figures from the Lê Dynasty. The temple's roof is covered with fish-scale tiles, and the ridge is decorated with a pair of dragons flanking a moon motif.

During the resistance war against the French, the temple served as a meeting place for the commune's militia and a center for propaganda activities.

Currently, the temple preserves many valuable artifacts from the Nguyễn Dynasty, including:  Four royal decrees. Incense tables, long đình, ceremonial hats, wooden statues, calligraphic plaques, couplets, and palanquins.

The temple maintains several cultural and religious ceremonies throughout the year, including: January 7: Lễ cầu mát (Cooling-off ritual). March 1: Commemoration of Lê Niệm (offerings include cakes, fruits, and savory dishes). April 23: Commemoration of Vũ Khắc Dụng (offerings include cakes, fruits, savory dishes, and ritual wine). August 20: Commemoration of Trần Hưng Đạo (offerings include cakes, fruits, and savory dishes). November 13: Commemoration of Phạm Quang Trù (offerings include cakes, fruits, savory dishes, and ritual wine). Every five years, a grand festival is held to commemorate the anniversary of Vũ Khắc Dụng's passing. The event features traditional folk games such as bamboo bridge balancing, tug-of-war, cockfighting, and chess competitions.

Văn Hải Temple was recognized as a provincial-level historical and cultural site in 2008.
